Google: more than just a search engine…

16 Aug 2016

Known globally for its online search engine, Google is estimated to handle over three billion searches every day.

This blog piece aims to explore other aspects of Google that may be of benefit to your business, such as Google Adwords, Analytics, Maps and much more.

Google Adwords

According to recent data, Google Adwords accounts for 97% of Google’s total revenue, so Adwords seems like the most obvious place to start.

Google Adwords is a service provided by Google which allows customers to pay for advertising space on its search pages.

This service may be beneficial to your firm and could help to increase your online presence, eliminating the requirement to wait for your website to be organically ranked. Furthermore, your monetary limit for any purchases can be capped, reducing the risk of receiving large or unexpected bills. The return on investment for Google Adwords is usually high – case studies can be accessed online that provide evidence regarding how the service generates new leads and converts adverts into orders.

Google Analytics

Launched in 2005, Google Analytics is another essential tool for the budding marketer. This software allows businesses to report on website traffic, analyse page visits and track email campaigns. Adding Google Analytics to your website is a straightforward process: simply create a Google account and provide your website developer with the code that is supplied to you – instructions can be found online.

Google Analytics has become an imperative tool that may assist companies with marketing decisions. Businesses can adjust the location of calls to action or website layouts based on reports provided by the service. These reports allow firms to view which pages visitors have explored and which buttons have been clicked.

Reporting is made simple with Google Analytics: the user can create custom dashboards and goals specific to their business. Simply select your desired date range and an automated email will be sent to you and your colleagues containing detailed, analytic website information.

Google Drive

Think of Google Drive as your own personal cloud, enabling you to access your documents whenever and wherever you are in the world. Not only can you upload documents, you can also share files and grant access to your friends, family and colleagues, allowing them to edit and collaborate on sheets, documents and presentations.

Used by businesses across the world, Google Drive provides you with 15GB worth of free storage, giving you the option to purchase further space if this is required.

Google My Business

My Business launched in 2004, and, once again, it’s another free service! My Business allows you to effectively manage which bits of your business’s information appears across Google’s channels, including Google Maps, search pages and My Business.
It has been suggested that users who verify their information with Google My Business are twice as likely to be considered reputable by clients and prospects. It is important that you are able to be easily found by customers, and that the information is up to date and readily accessible. Google My Business is, therefore, a great tool to keep your business information current, allowing visitors to access your opening hours, website address, contact number and your business’s address.
Making use of Google’s online tools may prove to be beneficial to you and your business in the long term – they allow you to review how you market and advertise your business, and, ultimately, may help to implement processes that could improve your online presence and client base.
